Pulmo-Protect™ combines low resistance with a high bacterial and viral efficiency filter designed specifically to protect the patient and equipment during lung function tests. During these tests patients may generate peak flows as high as 12 L/sec (720 LPM) and expel infective droplets, which could contaminate the pulmonary function test equipment. As a result, cross infection between patients is a real risk¹.

TrachSeal™ is available for 24 hour or 72 hour usage depending on the patient requirements. There are two length options to allow attachment to either endotracheal or tracheostomy tubes.

TrachSeal™ features an ultra clear, soft sleeve which allows the clinician a greater feel when inserting the catheter with optimum visibility of blockage assessments. Our suction control valve is responsive and allows for single handed control of the applied suction force. Introducing the SmartCan™

The SmartCan™ absorbs carbon dioxide within an anaesthetic breathing system and provides a further option for customers who have made the choice to use pre-fills. It offers a fast and easy exchange, an efficient CO₂ absorption, an air-tight seal for storage, and no dust emission.

The SmartCan™ is available with Spherasorb™ a medical grade soda lime with a white to violet and pink to white colour change, or with LoFloSorb™ a medical grade CO₂ absorbent that contains no alkali hydroxide with a green to violet colour change.

The SmartCan is compatible with the GE Healthcare®, anaesthesia, Carestation® 650™, Carestation® 620™, Carestation® 650c Pendant™ Carestation® 650c Wall Mount™ and Carestation 750™.

It is essential that the user follows both the instructions for use of the appropriate GE® Carestation® and also the instructions for use supplied with each box of Intersurgical SmartCan™ absorbers. For full details of how to attach and use the SmartCan™, please refer to instructions for use.

One-Piece Guedel Airways

Our One-piece Guedel airways combine two materials with very different physical characteristics into one molding, resulting in the elimination of the separate bite block found in all conventional Guedel airway designs. Loose or detached bite blocks constitute a real threat to patient safety and have been the subject of several hazard notices in the past. Our One-piece design overcomes all of the associated risks. As well as improved safety, the One-piece also incorporates a softer tip reducing the risk of trauma to the patient.

Our range of Guedel oropharyngeal airways is now fully compliant to the color-coding guidance outlined in ISO 5364:2016.
To comply, we changed the colors of four sizes of our One-Piece Guedel Airway range as confirmed below.

- ISO Size 3.5: Changed from Pink to Light Green
- ISO Size 6.5: Changed from White to Brown
- ISO Size 7.0: Changed from Yellow to White
- ISO Size 9.0: Changed from Orange to Yellow

i-gel® O₂ Resus Pack included in TCCC guidelines

The guidelines state that the i-gel® O₂ Resus Pack can be used for securing an airway in the Tactical Evacuation (TACEVAC) phase of care.

TCCC is the standard of care for Prehospital Battlefield Medicine and TACEVAC relates to the care given to a casualty whilst still under fire on the battlefield. The Committee on TCCC issue and regularly update guidelines. These guidelines include airway management and the use of supraglottic airways.

The original TCCC guidelines were published in 1996 and an update in 2012 reaffirmed support for the use of SADs for the TACEVAC phase of care, but did not recommend a specific device, as they did not feel there was sufficient evidence at the time to do so. However, in the latest update, i-gel has been designated as the 'preferred Extraglottic Airway (EGA)' as it was decided it had a number of characteristics that make it favourable for use on the battlefield.

They concluded that current evidence suggests the i-gel performs as well or better than the other SADs available and has other advantages in:

• Ease of training
• Size & weight
• Cost
• Safety
• Simplicity of use

The gel-filled cuff in the i-gel both eliminates the need for cuff pressure monitoring during flight and reduces the risk of pressure-induced neuropraxia to cranial nerves in the oropharynx and hypopharynx as a complication of SAD use.

The latest changes to the TCCC guidelines does the following things:

• Adds extraglottic airways (EGAs) as an option for airway management in Tactical Field Care;
• Recommends the i-gel as the preferred EGA in TCCC because its gel-filled cuff makes it simpler to use than EGAs with air-filled cuffs and also eliminates the need for monitoring of cuff pressure;
